Eridson Garcia returns to the spotlight
Super featherweight Eridson Garcia puts himself back in the spotlight after nine months out of the ring when he headlines the first BiYu Brawl in Houston on Saturday.
Garcia (19-1-0, 12KOs) is squaring up to 26-year-old Nicaraguan Jeovanny Antonion Tellez (13-2-0, 9KOs) over eight rounds, in what is potentially his final fight with BiYu Promotions and promoter Bobby Harrison.
Fans will be able to witness the fight – and the full BiYu Brawl card – via a live stream on BiYuBoxing.com.
It is an opportunity for the 30-year-old Dominican Republic puncher, who is determined to seal a crack at a world title, to put down a marker ahead of being part of boxing’s new revolution.
Garcia, who has signed to join a recently announced new boxing league which is still being finalised by its founders, is ready to use that as a springboard to achieve his career aims.
He said: “I have no idea what they intend to do as it is a new company but I hope it will be something big and I'm going all out and I'm going to do my best.
“I would like to be offered the biggest challenges to fulfil my goals and dreams and to grow together and if they offer me big challenges it gives me more security.
“I still have a lot of desire to be the world champion in different divisions and more desire than when I started my career.
“I have the utmost respect for Bobby Harrison, and who will continue to be my manager. He contributed a lot in my career and is a very important person for me.”
Garcia, whose last outing in July saw him secure a unanimous decision against William Foster III, is ready to shine this weekend against his relatively unknown opponent.
“It's been a long time since my last fight and I'm really looking forward to getting back in the ring so I can do what I love,” said Garcia, currently ranked 14th by the WBA.
“The night is about doing my job, doing what I love. It's time to shine.
“I don't know much about my opponent, I've only seen a few videos of him fighting, he's a good fighter but I'm better and I'm faster. My preparation has been good and I've been focused on working out how each fight gives the best of me.”
